Liven Your Space - A Resource for Healing from Mental Illness

Remember beauty on a sad day

It's exciting to have started a new web site, to hold in my hands my first published book, and now be writing my first blog.  All these things have happened over the past few months. Talk about "livening your space," I've been busy!  My friends just think I'm daffy of course.  But the point is that there is so much opportunity, so much we can do and create. And by using our God given gifts and talents - even when we don't think we have any - we feel better and make the world better on the surface and deep inside.

What I hope to be doing through this blog is sharing thoughts, resources, prose, poetry, even visual art that might motivate and stimulate others to share their talents too - with me I hope but, more importantly, with those surrounding them: their friends, their community, those they love. You!

Today is September 11th, a day of great sadness for many of us. Considering the darkness, ugliness, and sorrow of our 2001 memories, I'm telling myself that today is a perfect day for creating beauty somewhere, somehow.

It did my heart so much good when I saw the beauty of the 9-11 memorial in New York City.  I'm convinced that kind of memorial can be created anywhere reminding me of what Desmond Tutu and others have said about good overcoming evil, even as it may take a while.

Let's celebrate 9-11 today by not only remembering those who lost their lives in this senseless tragedy but by going outside ourselves and outside our sorrow and connect to others through what we do and share that is bold and beautiful.
